If you have rung a number on a warning or let someone connect to your computer
Do not pay them anything more. Change the passwords for your e-mail and any account you have used on that computer, from a different device if you can, and tell your bank straight away if you gave out card or bank details. Then bring the computer to us and we will check it over and remove anything that was left behind.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if I really have a virus?
A computer that has become slow, shows pop-ups or sends you to pages you did not choose may be infected, but a failing hard drive, a full disk or an overheating machine can look much the same. We check which it is before we do anything.
Will I lose my files?
Almost never. We take care to preserve your data, and if a drive is failing we will talk to you about recovery before we do anything that risks it.
Do I need to buy antivirus software?
Windows has its own protection built in. We check that it is switched on and working, and tell you honestly whether you need anything more.
How long will it take?
We always aim to get things sorted as soon as possible, often there and then or within one working day.
Can you come to me?
