About Seagate

Seagate Technology makes hard drives, solid state drives and storage systems, and its operational headquarters are in California. It is probably best known for hard drives, with named families for different jobs: BarraCuda for general use, FireCuda for gaming, IronWolf for network storage (NAS), and SkyHawk for security camera recording.

When we build or upgrade a PC, a Seagate hard drive is often the choice for bulk storage: films, photos, games libraries and backups. Many of our customers keep Windows on a fast SSD and put everything else on a larger hard drive. We also stock Seagate external drives, which plug in with a USB cable and are handy for simple backups.

Before choosing, think about what the drive will do. A normal desktop drive is fine for storing files, but a NAS or CCTV recorder runs all day and is better served by a drive made for that. Also check the size and connection your PC needs. If you are not sure, ring us and we will talk it through.

Seagate is known for

  • Internal 3.5 inch hard drives for desktop PCs
  • External drives such as Expansion and One Touch
  • IronWolf drives for network storage (NAS)
  • SkyHawk drives for security camera recording
  • Gaming drives, including FireCuda and console Game Drive

What we stock from Seagate

Choosing Seagate parts

  • Decide between internal and external. An internal drive sits inside the PC, neat and permanent. An external drive plugs in by USB and is easy to move between computers.
  • Desktop PCs normally take 3.5 inch hard drives, while laptops use the slimmer 2.5 inch size. Check which your computer has room for before you buy.
  • A hard drive suits lots of storage at a sensible cost. If speed matters for Windows or games, add an SSD, which has no moving parts and loads things quicker.
  • Buy more capacity than you think you need today. Backups and photo or video collections grow steadily, and a drive near its limit becomes slow and awkward to manage.

Questions about Seagate

What is the difference between BarraCuda, IronWolf and SkyHawk?

They are made for different jobs. BarraCuda is for general desktop use, IronWolf is made for network storage (NAS), and SkyHawk is made for security camera recording, which runs all day. We can help you choose the right one.

Can I use an external drive as my only backup?

It is better than nothing, but one copy can still be lost if the drive fails or is damaged. Ideally keep your important files in two places. We can talk you through simple backup options if you ring us.

Will a 3.5 inch drive fit my PC?

Most desktop PCs have space for 3.5 inch drives, but small cases and laptops often do not. Tell us your PC model and we can check before you buy, or fit the drive for you.

Can you move my old files onto a new Seagate drive?

Yes. We offer data transfer, so your files can be copied to the new drive, and we can fit parts bought from us. Old drives can also be wiped securely. Ring 01905 673738 and we will explain how it works.

What warranty do Seagate drives come with?

The manufacturer's warranty applies, and its length depends on the particular drive, so check the product page or ask us. If something goes wrong, we can help you decide what to do next.
