About Samsung

Samsung Electronics is a South Korean company founded in 1969 and based in Suwon. Besides phones and televisions, it is a major manufacturer of semiconductor memory, including DRAM and NAND flash, and its SSDs use NAND flash made by Samsung itself. Here we are only talking about its storage drives for PCs.

Samsung SSDs are a popular upgrade for a PC that feels slow, and we also fit them in PCs we build. Its SATA drives, such as the 870 EVO, suit older machines. Its NVMe drives, such as the 990 PRO and 980, plug into the M.2 slot found on most modern motherboards. We test every PC we build.

Before choosing, find out which type of drive your PC supports. A 2.5-inch SATA drive uses the same cable connection as an older hard drive, while an M.2 NVMe drive is a small stick that plugs straight into the motherboard. Check you have a free slot, and consider how much capacity you need.

Samsung is known for

  • A major maker of memory chips and NAND flash
  • SATA SSDs, including the EVO family
  • NVMe M.2 SSDs such as the 990 PRO
  • Portable SSDs that connect by USB
  • SSDs built on Samsung's own NAND flash

What we stock from Samsung

Choosing Samsung parts

  • Check whether your PC has a free M.2 slot or a spare SATA connection, because that decides which type of SSD you can fit.
  • If you buy an M.2 drive, confirm that the slot supports NVMe drives. Some older boards accept only SATA M.2 drives.
  • Choose a capacity with spare room. An SSD that is nearly full can become less comfortable to use, so allow for games, photos and updates.
  • A portable SSD is handy for backups and moving files. Check that your PC has a USB port suited to the drive.

Questions about Samsung

Which Samsung SSD should I choose for my PC?

It depends on what your PC supports. Older machines usually take a 2.5-inch SATA drive, while newer ones have M.2 slots for NVMe drives. Ring us on 01905 673738 with your PC model and we will point you to one that fits.

Can you replace my slow hard drive with a Samsung SSD?

Yes. We carry out upgrades and repairs, including fitting an SSD and setting up Windows on it. Ring us to talk about your PC, what you want to keep, and what is involved before you buy anything.

What is the difference between SATA and NVMe?

They are two ways of connecting a drive. SATA is the older connection also used by hard drives, and NVMe is a newer connection used by M.2 sticks that plug into the motherboard. Your PC must support the type you buy.

Do you stock Samsung phones or TVs?
