About Kingston

Kingston Technology was founded in 1987 by John Tu and David Sun and is based in Fountain Valley, California. It makes memory modules, solid-state drives, USB flash drives and memory cards. Its FURY name covers its memory aimed at gaming and enthusiast PCs, and it also sells the more everyday ValueRAM modules.

Memory and storage are some of the easiest upgrades to make. We often fit extra Kingston memory to speed up an older PC that struggles with several programmes open, or swap a slow hard drive for an SSD so Windows starts quicker. For new PCs we build, test and support the whole machine.

Memory compatibility matters most. Desktop memory comes as DDR4 or DDR5, and your motherboard accepts only one of them. Check the speed it supports and how many slots are free. For SSDs, find out whether your PC takes a 2.5-inch SATA drive or a small M.2 stick, since they connect differently.

Kingston is known for

  • Memory modules for desktops and laptops
  • FURY memory for gaming and enthusiast PCs

What we stock from Kingston

Choosing Kingston parts

  • Check whether your motherboard uses DDR4 or DDR5 memory before buying. They look similar but are not interchangeable.
  • When adding memory, match the amount and type to what is already installed where you can, or ask us which combination will work best.
  • SSDs come as 2.5-inch SATA drives or M.2 sticks. Check which your PC supports, as an M.2 slot can be missing on older machines.
  • For memory cards, check the card type your device uses, such as SD or microSD, and keep spare capacity for photos or video.

Questions about Kingston

Which Kingston memory is compatible with my PC?

It depends on your motherboard or laptop. You need the right type (DDR4 or DDR5), the right size of module, and a speed the system supports. Ring us on 01905 673738 with your PC model and we will help you choose.

Do you fit memory and SSDs bought from you?

Yes, we can fit parts bought from us as part of our repairs and upgrades service. An SSD upgrade can also include moving your existing Windows setup across. Ring us to discuss what is involved before you buy.

What is the difference between Kingston FURY and ValueRAM?

FURY is Kingston's memory range aimed at gaming and enthusiast PCs, while ValueRAM is its more everyday range for general use. Both fit the same type of slot, so check the memory type and speed your motherboard supports.

What is the difference between an SSD and a hard drive?

An SSD stores data on memory chips with no moving parts, whereas a hard drive uses spinning discs. Replacing a hard drive with an SSD usually makes a PC start up and load programmes more quickly.

Does Kingston make HyperX products?

Kingston created the HyperX gaming brand, but sold its HyperX peripherals business in 2021. Kingston memory and storage for gaming now carries the Kingston FURY name, so look for FURY in the product list.
